LOST PETS & CITY IMPOUND

LOST PETS

"The Laramie Peak Humane Society has teamed up with the City of Douglas to offer a secure, temporary haven for impounded and lost animals while their owners locate or reclaim them. Sadly, many animals brought to the shelter remain unidentified. As a responsible pet owner, please ensure proper identification for your pet. It's essential for pets to wear a collar with an updated ID tag, along with their city-issued tag. Additionally, we strongly advocate for microchipping all pets.

When reclaiming an impounded or found pet, a $20 fee per day is required at the time of pickup. Dogs not reclaimed within five days become available for adoption, while cats not reclaimed within three days also become available for adoption.

IMPOUND

City licenses offer an immediate means of contact if your pet goes missing. Required for dogs and cats within city limits, these licenses are provided at no cost and can be obtained with proof of current rabies vaccination at the Douglas Police Department. By having a city license, you enable a swift return of your pet in case of loss or escape, as it provides officers with an effective way to reach you. If immediate contact isn't possible, pets are brought to LPHS and can be reclaimed with a small fee. Shelter staff utilize phone and social media to reunite impounded animals with their owners if owner contact information is unknown.
